Practising meditation is very difficult for many at first, the moment we slow down, the mind takes over. The harder we strive to climb our way out of the vortex of thought, the deeper it seems to suck us in.To surmount this barrier, understanding how the mind is programmed is needed.Psychologists offer the explanation that the pattern of operation of the mind derive from trying to protect us from harm. The actively intervenes to ensure our negative emotional responses are predictably spurred so that we remain physically unharmed, our threshold for happiness continue to rise.Things that once gave us a great deal of joy and pleasure, lose their power to influence us in the same way as we get used to them.It is indeed a law of human conditioning that pain and fear persist as long as factors stimulating them are not to our satisfaction or make us feel threatened in some way.If we accept this dichotomy and choose to live with it.We end up to with a decline in wellbeing as our experience of negative feelings remains poignant and overwhelms our diminishing ability to derive joy from everyday life.So there is no solution to this unfair imbalance?Thankfully there is.We can start by constantly reminding ourselves of everything that is right about our lives.Counting our blessings immediately puts us in a frame of mind that is upbeat.Being in a state of gratitude is bliss4 by itself but beyond that, it is a door that leads to the mindfulness and meditation we seek.
